I have followed the diagram for disconnecting the wiring from pillar to door drivers front side.

I have a issue now as the retaining ring has come off and the connection inside the pillar is loose.

I have tried to connect it again but cant do it.

Can anyone help give me any tips???

Got it fixed.

The door pillar has a lung which the wiring has to sit in. This allows the connection to sit out that wee bit so I could attached the holding ring, very fiddley but got there in the end.

The connection from the door just slipped back in and screwed clockwise.

So all working again.

It's a wonder car manufactures wouldn't make the wires between pillar and door more flexible!!

Just now got out of car pressed the key to lock it and drivers door does not lock had to lock it with key.

Everything else windows, wing mirrors are working ok just the locking. The led does not blink when I lock it with the key.

Any ideas??

Car this morning now doing funny things.

When I press the drivers window button the window does not only go down but also the hazard lights flash 3 times. When I press the button for the back window demister it works ok but the hazard lights flash 3 times again. Central locking still not working on drivers door as well.

Would it be the case that more wires have broken? Wires touching wires? Anything else?

Also, can anyone tell me where I can order a rubber gaiter as the one on the drivers door loom is split?

It has to be the insulation breaking down and bare wires touching between the pillar and door, try the windows with the door open or while opening it, if the problem disappears it's the wires.

, good luck

More of a disaster this morning apart from the frost the car is now doing more funny things!!

Right, the front electric windows will not go down at all now the door mirrors do not work but the button to lock the central locking locks all doors except drivers. The funniest thing of all is when I am driving over speed ramps the hazard lights flash twice repeatedly. I bet some drivers got a good laugh this morning following me??? When I pressed the button on the key to lock the car the led came on flashing but still had to lock the drivers door.

Does it still sound like the wiring loom from pillar to door?? I am finding it hard to get at the wiring loom I have connected wires which have broke buy others insulation is cracked. I just put a terminal block connected a piece of cable then connected another terminal block to connect the wires up again. Do I need to get the correct size of cable?

Also would anyone have the drivers wiring loom diagram or do the wires just corresspond with the same colour when broke?

Please help its getting very annoying.

On the flashing hazard lights when going along i've had this before on a mondeo it was the bonnet alarm switch on that (common problem on them) which would make poor contact and cause the alarm to go into self test mode. It may not be that exact fault but you must have some sort of short circuit introduced or an exposed/broken wire still.

When you did the door pillar wiring did you replace the wire as detailed in the instructions or did you just rejoin it? It could be that the wire has got bits of missing insulation (the red one on mine was flaking off around where it had broken) or you may have had other wires which were already weak and came off as you were fixing the other ones.

Either way if these faults appeared after you repaired the wire then it would seem to suggest the likly place to be looking is the wiring itself and the general area you were working in.

Edit just noticed in your reply - the broken insulation isn't good. You really need to replace the wires as detailed in the instructions as particually once they break they are already in a weakened state. You will only get more trouble with them if you try just to rejoin them (theres a good chance one has already broken as the extra size of the terminal block will only add to the stress on it).

And yes the same size cable on each one as it currently uses. If you use thin cable on the red/brown wires they will almost certainly melt after a time causing far more problems. Just match the wires to the colour at the other end and rejoin as detailed in the faq section (soldering is the specified method if if remember correctly).

BrianH thanks for the detailed reply.

I do think its the wiring from pillar to door that's causing the problems.

Where can I get the pieces of wire I need don't want to buy loads of the stuff when I don't need it?

Have u replaced the rubber gaiter between door and pillar if so where did u get a replacement?

A trip to the breakers yard with cutters and tools to take the door card off a gall, take the good wire out of the door and the rubber gator, probably get the lot for a tenner.

I've repaired the wires to fix problems previously. not replaced the gaiter as didn't need to, but otherwise as viperclive says. Alternatively buy some from any motor factors just make sure its the same size. The advantage to using Clive's method would be you would have the right colours there.

Gaiters will be either from a scrapyard or ebay etc used or dealers new as said by others previously. They will doubtless be expensive if you can still get them from ford (i've had issues getting some parts from them previously for mine).

How easy is it to replace the whole loom in the drivers door? Have repaired at least 4 broken wires and its about time the loom was changed. Do I have to use Ford for the parts at their exorbitant cost?
